Singapore Theatre Festival

Presented by W!LD RICE, the Singapore Theatre Festival is an event dedicated to celebrating contemporary Singaporean theatre through the development and presentation of new and original local writing. Featuring brand new plays that have their world premiere during the Singapore Theatre Festival as well as second chances to see hit plays again, there are also fringe activities such as forum sessions, stand-up comedy performances, Meet the Artist sessions and workshops to create a truly interactive experience for festival goers.

Christianity in Asia: Sacred Art and Visual Splendour

Head down to the Asian Civilisations Museum to check out the world’s first exhibition on the history and spread of Christian art in Asia. Asia has played a significant role in the spread of Christianity since the 7th century and Asian art absorbed influences from many different cultures, including the Middle East, India, China, Japan, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia. About 150 objects, generously loaned from 20 institutions in 6 different countries, are on display and chart the fascinating history and spread of Christianity in Asia, offering a glimpse into the historical co-existence of different religions in Asia.

Nyonya Needlework: Embroidery and Beadwork in the Peranakan World

The Peranakan culture is unique to Singapore and Peninsula Malaysia, and here’s an opportunity to view their spectacular traditional art of beading and embroidery. From a smorgasbord of celebratory items like elaborately designed wedding slippers and wedding bed valence to daily-use objects such as handcrafted belts and beaded handkerchiefs, the exhibition will bring to life the intricate designs and artistry of what form a big part of the Peranakans’ everyday lives. Some of the finest examples of nyonya needlework, from the Peranakan Museum and major international collections, will be displayed, including some of the earliest dated embroidered and dated objects in the world. Representing millions of hours of painstaking hand-stitches, the objects tell the unique story of the locals, and with it cross-cultural influences and interpretations of the increasingly cosmopolitan world.

Pusåkå: Heritage and Culture of the Javanese in Singapore

Discover the heritage and culture of the Javanese sub-ethnic group of Malays in Singapore through this collaborative effort between the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) and the Javanese Association of Singapore (JAS). Pusåkå means heirloom or legacy, and this free exhibition showcases items associated with Javanese performing arts such as dance, song, music, instruments, costumes and props as well as charting the history of migration from the Indonesian island of Java to Singapore.

SHINE Festival

SHINE Festival is on in celebration of Youth Month! Come see what the youth of Singapore are capable of, and participate in the carnivalesque celebrations. With art markets, dance performances, food trucks and more, SHINE Festival promises to showcase the talents and passions of participants. Local YouTubers and singers will be making an appearance, as well as international stars such as Red Bull Street Style World Champion freestyle footballer Kotaro Tokuda!

Hari Raya Aidilfitri

One of the major holidays on the Singapore calendar, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is what the festival of Eid is called in Singapore. Also known as Hari Raya Puasa, it marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan for Muslims. On this day, Muslims all over Singapore dress up in new clothes – usually each family dresses in matching colours – and visit family and friends. Do drop by the Ramadan Bazaar at Geylang Serai which runs until the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri to soak up the atmosphere and indulge in the fabulous street food!

Maximally Minimal by Quinnuance

Maximally Minimal is part of the Spectrum music series, which covers the genre of new music/minimalistic music. This genre originated in 1960s America when a group of composers decided to reinvent and simplify what the classical world considered music to be. The works presented in Maximally Minimal will dismantle our perception of time through music, film, and the pared-down aesthetics of minimalism. Composed by the members of Quinnuance, a Singaporean collective comprising four composers and a music director, each work will be accompanied by a film sequence. Tickets are from $25 with limited concessions available.

Singapore Food Festival

One of the largest food festivals on the Singapore events calendar, the Singapore Food Fest 2016 harks back to the past as well as looks towards the future. The 50 Cents Fest! at Chinatown dishes up tasting portions of beloved hawker food at yesteryears’ prices, while STREAT features a stellar cast of hawkers and chefs will serve you modern Singapore-inspired creations and sumptuous Singaporean favourites at great prices. Food tours, heritage trails, food trucks and even a kueh appreciation day make up other events at the Singapore Food Festival. This is definitely not to be missed for anyone interested in Singaporean food!

Singapore Science Festival

Have an interest in STEM? Then don’t miss the public events of the Singapore Science Festival! X-periment! is a three-day science carnival at which visitors can gets hands-on with interactive innovations and experiments by local researchers. The Science Buskers Festival, on the other hand, is a competition amongst buskers aimed at engendering an interest in science in the public – vote for your favourite busker to help them win!

Singapore Garden Festival

Not just for horticulture aficionados, the Singapore Garden Festival is all set to put the magnificence of plants on display for the enjoyment of all. From floral table displays and fantasy landscapes to floral showcases and balcony gardens, the versatility of plants will be put on display. One of the main draws of the Festival is, of course, the Orchid Extravaganza where more than 400 orchid plants will be on display in the Flower Dome of Gardens by the Bay. There’s also a Marketplace with over 100 retailers, a Community Garden Edibles Competition and more happening at the Singapore Garden Festival!

Selena Gomez Revival Tour

Pop princess Selena Gomez has left her Disney days behind, but not her singing career. In Singapore for one night only, Selena is making a stop here on the Oceania leg of her tour.
