Retrolicious Reunion (2013)

Step back into time and relive retro as 80s pop icons Bananarama, Belinda Carlise and Rick Astley reunite to transport you back to the days when walkmans were must have gadgets and shoulder pads defined style. For the first time ever, three 1980s pop favorites will share the stage to belt out some of their most famous hits. Retrolicious party goers are encouraged to attend the concert dressed in their favorite 80s apparel so pull on those neon leggings, make your way down to Fort Canning and be prepared to party like its 1981 again.

Oktoberfest Asia 2013

Celebrate Germany’s favorite drinking festival in Singapore this year at Oktoberfest Asia 2013. Oktoberfest Asia 2013 prides itself as being the first truly authentic Oktoberfest in Asia complete with Bavarian beers, a true Munchen band, gourmet Bavarian food and of course an atmosphere reminiscent of drinking festivals in Munich. Oktoberfest 2013 is supported by Bavaria’s finest breweries – Paulaner Brauhaus, Schneider Weisse and Spaten making this the ideal event to let loose and indulge in German festivities right here in Singapore. Singaporean band Wicked Aura will also be performing as part of the entertainment ensemble adding a touch of Asia to this European festival with their brand of local ethnic rhythms infused electronica.

ACM after Dark: Fright Night

Horror fans and history buffs alike are welcome to explore the mythical realm of the Asian supernatural realm at this Asian Civilisations Museum after dark special. Fright Night celebrates Halloween Singapore-style by bringing you spine chilling stories and performances featuring creatures straight out of a Singaporean horror novel. To add to the excitement there will be a ghostly movie screening and even haunting tales told in the galleries. Brave souls who dare to enter this supernatural realm will also get to make their very own spooky souvenirs.

Escape To 'Hell''oween - Horror Creeps Within

Pray hard as you prepare yourself to enter the world of Asian Horror at Horror Creeps Within. Survive the Maze of Terror and try to make it out to the other side by outsmarting and escaping ghosts and demons. The Walking Dead parade also promises to be a spooky spectacle to behold with zombies and a host of other creepy characters who are eager to be photographed. Feel the fires of hell at the Flame of Terror show and look into your future with Chinese Palmistry and Crystal Ball readings. Come dressed scary and you stand to compete in the most horrifically dressed contest. Keeping up with the spirit of Halloween, there will also be a screening of local horror movie “Pulau Hantu”. Horror Creeps Within is not suitable for children, expectant mothers and those with heart disease, high blood pressure or claustrophobia.

Race the Dead 2013

Staying fit this Halloween promises to be a frightful but fun affair at Race the Dead 2013. This five-kilometer dash with a difference will feature hordes of zombies waiting to devour you as you run for dear life. Participants will have to outrun the living dead in order to make it to the finish line without turning into a human happy meal. Race the Dead is inspired by the history of Sentosa, the venue of the race. This island that was previously known as Pulau Belakang Mati (isle of death from behind) was once a hotbed of horror folklore and curious mysteries. Reach the finish line with at least one of two flags issued at the start of the race to seek comfort in the quarantine area and enjoy live performances after the race.

Sentosa Spooktacular

Sentosa is teaming up with GTH (GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd), creator of hit Asian horror films such as Shutter, Body, Dorm and Pee Mak to bring horror fans a memorable Halloween. Asia’s largest horror fest will take place for six nights throughout October and early November in the form of five trails at Fort Siloso. Thai horror movie fans will especially enjoy the themed haunted trails at the old British coastal fort featuring characters from famous Thai horror movies like “Shutter”, “The Dorm” and “Coming Soon”. This immersive live horror festival aims to have its guests step into the shoes of the movie characters and as such cinematic effects from the films will be employed to heighten the horror of the trail environments. The rumor that the venue Fort Siloso is filled with secret tunnels and chambers and the belief that it is reputedly haunted further adds to the thrill of Sentosa Spooktacular.

Halloween Horror Nights 3

Universal Studios Singapore joins in the frightful festivities this Halloween with the highly immersive Halloween Horror Nights. Special themed environments have been designed to offer visitors the ultimate fright fest. Haunted houses and scare zones include a crumbling mansion, a forbidden forest, an old Chinese opera theater and a cemetery housing blood thirsty vamps. Do not forget your cameras as the ghouls here enjoy a good photo-op. This year’s theme is centered on three sisters, maiden of the opera, crone of the forest and daughter of the undead. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet and greet the spine chilling sisters in their respective scare zones if they manage to survive their sinister surroundings. This event is marked too intense for children and as such children under 13 are advised not to attend. Masks and costumes are also disallowed in line with the regulations of Universal Studios Singapore.

Perspectives Film Festival 2013: Breakthroughs in Cinema

Launched in 2008 and returning for its sixth festival celebrating independent cinema, the Perspectives Film Festival this year will feature five award winning titles that have pioneered innovations in filmmaking and storytelling. The Bangladeshi film “Television” will make its debut along with four other films including the iconic contemporary Thai film “Black Silk” and the American 90s thriller “Shallow Grave”. A showcase of short films will also be screened in celebration of local filmmakers. Film buffs can expect post-screening dialogue sessions for the films “Television” and “Black Silk”, a showcase featuring homegrown independent film collective Akanga Film Asia and a master class conducted by Spaniard filmmaker Fran Borgia who studied filmmaking in Singapore amongst other locations.

TANAH PUSAKA: Haunting Stories of a Land Possessed

Commemorate Halloween the Singaporean way and explore her supernatural history with MoonShadow Stories. Stories of the paranormal pertaining to traditional Malay folklore are sure to scare with iconic characters such as the Bomoh (Malay witch doctor), Toyol (poltergeist like entity) and Orang Minyak (violent spirit). The tales that will be told at Tanah Pusaka are based on Verena Tay’s “The Land”, just one of the stories featured in the book “Stories from Dark to Light” which will be sold at the performance. The storytellers include the writer Verena Tay and president of the Storytelling Association Kamini Ramachandran. Revisit the tradition of Oral story telling in this intimately terrifying horror event. Tanah Pusaka is strictly for audience members of ages 16 years and above.

Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair

Singapore is set to shine this year as she hosts the largest regional fine jewellery event. The fair will feature more than 200 exhibitors from 25 countries. Calling all caffeine connoisseurs, coffee crawl 2013 is the one event you do not want to miss. Sex. Violence. Blood. Gore is a compelling collection of stories addressing issues of sexuality, desire and gender construction. Some of the torrid tales include that of a geography teacher attaining sexual maturity and two transvestites in love. Sex. Violence. Blood. Gore divulges the deepest and most intimate thoughts of Singaporeans in this colorful little play written by local playwright Alfian Sa'at. The critically acclaimed play has been likened to both a nightmare and a wet dream that is hilarious and yet deeply poetic. Examine the chilling effects of society induced repression from an unapologetic perspective with Sex. Violence. Blood. Gore. This performance is strictly limited to those of ages 18 and above.
