International artistes, art exhibitions, side-splitting humour, festivals and more await this month, with method in the March madness ensuring you’ll be spoilt for choice.


Prudential Eye Awards Exhibition

Part of the highly successful Global Prudential Eye Programme, this exhibition showcases 15 of Asia’s emerging contemporary artists, curated from over 100 submissions by curators, critics and art experts from across Asia. The shortlisted artists are chosen from five categories: Digital/Video, Installation, Painting, Photography and Sculpture. This year, the artists featured are Aditya Novali, Anupong Charoenmitr, Huang Po-Chih, indieguerillas, Manish Nai, Promotesh Das, Robert Zhao Ren Hui, Sareth Svay, Shumon Ahmed, Sutthirat Supaparinya, Tawan Wattuya, Toshiyuki Konishi, Trinh Thi Nguyen, Yang Mushi, and Zhang Wei.

5 Seconds of Summer – Sounds Live Feels Live

In Singapore for the first time is Aussie pop-rock band 5SOS! Do they need an introduction? Rock out to their rock-infused pop for one night only at The Star Theatre. Staging songs from their latest album Sounds Live Feels Live, you can expect to dance along to cheeky hits like She’s Kinda Hot alongside a high-octane performance.

i Light Marina Bay

i Light Marina Bay, Asia’s leading sustainable light art festival, returns in its fourth edition to illuminate Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay. This year, more than 20 innovative and sustainable light art installations from Singapore and around the world are set to transform the vibrant waterfront precinct into a kaleidoscopic display of light, colour, shadow and play.

Beyond its spectacular showcase of visual art and urban space, the festival offers a dynamic line-up of events and programmes over four weekends. With fun boat tours, eclectic performances, delectable outdoor dining options, engaging artist workshops and more, i Light Marina Bay 2016 presents a multi-sensory experience with something for all.

Singapore International Jazz Festival

The Singapore International Jazz Festival (Sing Jazz) is the biggest jazz festival in Singapore, and it’s back for its third edition. Held at the Event Plaza at Marina Bay Sands, the location enables all attendees to get front-row views of Marina Bay Sands’ stunning Water Show. Sing Jazz promises a heady mix of music lined up for three captivating al-fresco evenings. With 23 fresh new acts and old classics, there’s sure to be something for each and every jazz fan.

Don Quixote

Who thinks classical ballet is always serious? Well, Don Quixote is here to turn what you think about ballet upside down. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and created for the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, this ballet has been re-staged by Cynthia Harvey with sets and costumes designed especially for the Singapore Dance Theatre. Coupled with lots of fun, humour and quirkiness, this ballet has garnered rave reviews and fronted the cover of Dance Europe in Jan 2015!

When: 10 to 13 March

Disney on Ice Presents Magical Ice Festival

Disney fans unite! This year’s Disney on Ice features none other than the royal sisters Anna and Elsa from Academy Award® -winning and number one animated feature film of all time, Disney’s Frozen. Join them, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven as they navigate their way through action, adventure and magic. Of course, characters from other beloved Disney classics will make an appearance too. Ariel, Sebastian, Rapunzel, Flynn, Belle, the Beast and his enchanted entourage bring their winsome magic to the show too.

Kids Fiesta 2016

If you’ve got the kiddos with you, this is one event you don’t want them to miss. With 30 fun activities aimed at children aged 3 to 12, Kids Fiesta 2016 is all set to give the kids an afternoon of fun in the sun. Glide around Singapore’s first outdoor skating rink, jump around in a bouncy castle, let off some steam playing Knockout Knights and more! Entry to the grounds is free, although taking part in the games requires the purchase of a Fun Pass.

Garden Beats

Pack your own picnic and prepare to groove all day and night at Garden Beats, the electronic picnic festival, with a line-up consisting of international electronic DJs Alle Farben, Faul & Wad, Jan Blomqvist, Klangkuenstler, Lovra and Roscuis. Apart from the two performance stages, there will be Culinary Fields where you can feast on gastronomic delights, Social Fields where you can chat, flirt and relax with other festival goers and Play Fields where you can revisit your childhood games.

Winter Run Singapore

Experience ‘Winter in a Summer’ at the Winter Run Singapore this March! This 5km fun run is chock-a-block full of fun and games. Enter the first zone, Seasons in the Fun, by slipping and sliding down a bouncy slide, and trying out your hands at carnival games. Escape the Awful Carollers by making for the Let it Snow zone, where photo booths and snow await. Finally, in the Brave the Cold zone, indulge in icy cold treats before plunging into the ice cave where you can take a dip in the ice bath before leaving.

The Noose & Kakis: 11 Months of Fresh Air

The Noose is one of Singapore’s most popular satirical programmes. A news-based current affairs comedy, ‘The Noose & Kakis: 11 Months of Fresh Air’ brings the hit programme from the small screen to the stage. The intrepid band of reporters, who have neither the time nor the inclination for the tenets of journalism such as truth, fact checking or accuracy in their reporting, are teaming up with some of the best stand-up comedians from Singapore and Malaysia such as Kumar, Fakkah Faz, Kavin Jay and Harith Iskander. Get ready for some side-splitting skewering of hot button topics.
