M1 Singapore Fringe Festival

m1-jan2014A platform specially created for Singaporean and international artists to showcase their creative talents, the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is an annual festival of dance, music, visual arts and mixed media. This year, art lovers will come together to celebrate The Singapore Fringe Festival’s 10th anniversary. Featuring 15 works from six countries, this year’s theme, Art and People, aims to explore relationships among people. Highlights include works like the first-time Mandarin production An Enemy of the People, production Three Fingers Below the Knee – a play about censorship during Portugal’s 40 year-old dictatorship, and lastly, Majulah Singapura – Tree Project by Japanese Artist Hiroshi Sunairi.

Late Nite @ Esplanade: Coming Home (Nathan Hartono)

Nathan has recorded albums, performed at national events, appeared in film and on television, and most recently, been involved in musical theatre. His jazz-based, pop-infused, and soul-inspired music has made him a prominent performer in the local music scene. Now 22, his music is styled by a jazz-based, pop-infused and soul-inspired sound that has been shaped over the years. The charismatic performer will bring to you an intimate night of storytelling, music and love, as he performs his original compositions and cover songs.

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

The Great Escape – The Steve McQueens

the-great-escape-jan2014This January, join Singaporean neo-vintage soul band Steve McQueens as they perform original tracks as well as new compositions that channel that vintage cool in their modern mix. Influenced by the likes of the soulful and sultry and the eclectic and eccentric, the Steve McQueens gather inspiration from performers such as Theolonius Monk, James Brown, Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Brad Mehldau and Robert Glasper. An amalgamation of soul, jazz, pop and some blues, their music is a groove-based hybrid of tight arrangements and freely improvised sounds. The group has performed at BluJaz and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, and has recently launched their album, Einstein Moments.

Dinosaurs (Dawn to Extinction)

dinosaurs-jan2014Go back in time and let Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction take you on a journey into the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous prehistoric periods. Spanning over 3,700 square metres of floor space on Marina Bay Sand’s ArtScience Museum, this exhibition is the largest dinosaur exhibition in Southeast Asia. It tells the story of these fascinating creatures’ histories and sheds light on how they lived and evolved. Visitors can expect vivid displays like an 18-metre long Apatosaurus, a 17.6-metre long Lessemsaurus sauropod specimen, and many other spectacular artwork and models! For an interactive experience, visitors can download mobile apps that allow them to interact and get educated on different segments of the exhibition and also race virtual dinosaurs!
