Do you know that tropical Singapore has a plethora of parks, gardens, nature escapes and even farms?

These are perfect for nature walks, morning jogs and family explorations. We have compiled a list of 5 must-see and to-do nature experiences in Singapore.

1) Southern Ridges
Southern Ridges The Southern Ridges just opened in 2008. It is a 9km chain, connecting the greenery of Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Kent Ridge Park before ending at West Coast Park. Bask in the tropical flora and fauna and catch panoramic views of the city and port.

Events:
Mount Fable to Kent Ridge Ramble
Date: Sun 22 Feb 2009
Time: 07.30am - 11.30am
Start Location: Harbourfront MRT Station Exit D (near Marang Road)

Mount Faber to Kent Ridge Ramble with the Nature Ramblers. Explore the maze of pathways that connect Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill Park with Ho Wah Loong. Enjoy a fantastic view of the harbour and southern islands from the highest points at these two peaks. The ramble will take us through the attractions recently completed by NParks: the highest pedestrian bridge at the Henderson Crossing, the elevated walkway at Telok Blangah Hill, the ‘Arch’ bridge across Alexandra Road and the HortPark at Kent Ridge. Bring your binoculars along to spot interesting birds and mammals and a camera to capture the sights. Meet at 7.30 am at the Harbourfront MRT Station Exit D (near Marang Road). This 8km/4hr ramble ends at Pepy’s Road (off Pasir Panjang Road). Booking is not required. Organised by Nature Society (Singapore).

2) HortPark
HortPark HortPark is a gardening showcase centre, connecting Telok Blangah Hill and Kent Ridge park, accessible from the Southern Ridges. You can participate in gardening-oriented activities such as guided tours, workshops, talks and fitness activities. There is also a Thai restaurant and children’s playground.

3) MacRitchie Reservoir
MacRitchie Reservoir Step into the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, and journey back to 1800s Singapore, when the island was still covered with tropical forest.

MacRitchie and the Central Catchment Nature Reserve has more than 100 hectares of resplendent greenery. MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore's first reservoir, built in 1867-68, and was conserved as a water catchment area.

More than 840 plants and 500 species of animals exist within this Nature Reserve. Boardwalks and walking trails cut through this Nature Reserve, allowing visitors to explore the amazing bio-diversity of flora and fauna.

Events:
Title: Butterfly walk at MacRitchie Trail
Date: Sun 25 May 2008
Start Time: 10.00am
Start Location: MacRitchie Reservoir Main Entrance Car Park

Butterfly walk at MacRitchie Trail with Simon Chan. In April, we introduced members to a number of beautiful butterfly species that frequent Mt. Faber Park. This time we will take our newly-found butterfly watching skills to the forest. Members will at once notice the more brilliant colours of forest denizens as compared to the ones in urban areas. Species encountered here include the regal Royal Assyrian, the very rare Dark Blue Jungle Glory, the big, strong and fast flying Great Helen, and many more deep forest dwellers. This walk will last about two hours.
Note: This walk is for Nature Society (Singapore) members only. Non-members who are interested in attending the walk can sign up as members on the spot or from the Nature Society (Singapore) website.

4) Kranji Countryside
Kranji Countryside Are there farms in Singapore?

Be surprised!

The Kranji Countryside is a community collective of more than 10 farms, focusing on Agri-tainment and educational activities. Join in the farm tours and purchase fresh produce from diary farms, fisheries and horticulture nurseries. There is also a farmstay resort called D’Kranji, Singapore's first and only Agri-tainment resort complex.

5) Marina Barrage
Marina Barrage Our final recommendation is not really a natural reservoir per say. The Marina Barrage is however, Singapore’s first reservoir in the city.

Situated in the vibrant Marina Bay district, this architectural masterpiece interweaves greenery with modern technology. Find out about the sophisticated engineering used to control water flow and prevent flooding. Visit the Sustainable Singapore Gallery and learn about Singapore’s efforts on environmental sustainability. Relax on the green roof and take in panoramic views of the Singapore skyline.
