Singapore Art Show 2009 21 August – 4 October 2009 Join us and celebrate local arts at the biennial Singapore Art Show 2009. The show features over 40 concurrent events – held at various locations – on the works of established and aspiring Singapore artists. Organised for the third time by the National Arts Council (NAC), it hopes to inspire locals and visitors, as well as display the vibrancy of the arts scene in Singapore. An array of different art forms such as public sculptures, traditional painting, and contemporary visual arts will be showcased. Art competitions are also organised to nuture young talents and inspire creativity in the next generation. The Dead Sea Scrolls & the Ancient World 27 August – 20 September 2009 Be the first in Asia to experience a stroll down 5000 years of human civilization. Held in Singapore for only 25 days, this extraordinary exhibition will showcase over 100 artefacts including fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which are probably some of the most significant discovery excavated in the 20th century. Discover the origins of languages from the ancient parchments, papyrus and the first book ever written in the history of mankind. The Best Of Chinese Melodies 25 - 26 September 2009 Composed by distinguished composer Peng Xiu Wen, The Surging of Turbulent Clouds is an adaptation of contemporary Beijing Opera’s Mount Dujuan. See Peng’s clever use of instrumentation bring the best out of the orchestra. The lively Red Flower Blossoms depicts farmers who transformed a barren ravine into a vibrant village of bountiful harvests through hard work and perseverance.
