Mahler Festival: The Tragic Symphony (SSO)
16th July 2010
British pianist Stephen Hough joins the SSO to open the concert with Mendelssohn’s sparkling First Concerto. This is followed by the highlight of the night, Mahler’s Sixth, considered to be among his greatest symphonies, was composed at a particularly happy time in his personal and professional life. It is nevertheless a work of great drama, spanning the heights of exhilaration to the depths of despair.
