From stand-up to the arts to Chinese New Year festivities and more, February is full of events for the whole family.


Comedy at Canvas w/ Kumar

Singapore’s premier drag queen Kumar brings his unique, risqué brand of humour to the stand-up stage at Canvas. With brash frankness, Kumar pokes fun at Singapore’s political, racial and gender issues. And if you can’t laugh at yourself, this isn’t the best event for you – Kumar’s known for using his wit on his audience, and with this being an intimate venue, you’ve a high chance of being singled out for some attention. Strictly for ages 18 and up!

Treasure The Splendour Of Spring

Chinatown Festive Street Bazaar & Carnival

Chinese New Year is almost upon us, and with it comes all the accompanying hustle and bustle. At the heart of the festivities is Chinatown, so why not make your way down and enjoy the atmosphere? Feast on the best of New Year Goodies, and soak in the riot of colours that special Chinese New Year plants and decorations bring. The bazaar and carnival will only get more crowded the closer it is to Chinese New Year (8 February) so go as soon as possible to avoid the crush of the crowds.

Where: Pagoda Street, Smith Street, Sago Street, Temple Street and Trengganu Street (Festive Street Bazaar) & the open space in front of People’s Park Complex (Festive Carnival)

Chinatown Street Light-Up

In addition to the Festive Street Bazaar and Festive Carnival, Chinatown will also be decked out in lights and other decorations. As the coming year is going to be the Year of the Monkey, keep an eye out for an abundance of playful simians lining the streets! Rows and rows of peach trees have been put up for this year’s street light-up, and the design combines both traditional and modern design. Look for the wishing tree, and donate $2 to get a “Make a Wish” card to pen your hopes and hang them on the tree. All proceeds will go to the Kreta Ayer Seniors’ Activity Centre.

Spring Fun in the Park

More Chinese New Year festivities can be had at City Square Mall! Bring the kiddos down and let them enjoy the monkey-themed inflatable bouncy castle, and ride the Junior Horse Carousel. With plenty of game booths to boot, there’s plenty of fun for the whole family. There are zodiac fortunes here too, so don’t forget to take a peek at what the Year of the Monkey has in store for you!

Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts

Presented by the Esplanade, the Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts brings many aspects of Chinese arts to the public. The programme line-up ranges from concerts to theatre productions and dance performances to drumming workshops. There are oldies as well as contemporary performances, and the addition of children’s programmes ensure that there is something for everyone.

Chingay 2016

The main Chingay parade is happening on 19 and 20 February this year! The theme is "Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore" 《智慧灯海,璀璨新加坡》, so of course the brilliantly-lit floats will be more luminous than ever before. In addition to the colourful multi-ethnic performances and dazzling floats that we’ve come to know and love, this year there will be the addition of electrifying international performances, including the Blazing Flying Dragon from China. There will also be a spectacular fireworks display that is not to be missed!

Singapore Air Show 2016

The annual Singapore Air Show is back! Asia's Largest Aerospace and Defence event, it is open to the public on 20 and 21 February. There is a whole host of events, including static displays of military aircraft and awesome aerial acrobatic displays. This is a rare chance to sit in the cockpit of a fighter plane or tour the luxurious interiors of private jets! Meet-the-pilot sessions will also be held, where visitors can take photos with the pilots. Exclusive merchandise such as aviator sunglasses and mascot plushies will be available at the Singapore Air Show too.

Watch Local: First Short, First Feature

Experience some local cinema at Watch Local. This edition will be screening the first short and feature films from an eclectic selection of Singapore filmmakers. Each night will focus on a different director, and chart their creative journey from their first short film to their first feature film. Some of the sessions will also have post-screening discussions to give further insight on the directors’ craft. Entry to the screenings is by donation, and pre-registration is required.

My Little Pony Friendship Run

Bring the littles down to Sentosa on the 28 of February for the My Little Pony Friendship Run! Run or walk together with them in the 4km fun run, or let them join the competitive 1km Pony Kids Run to see how they fare against other kids. You can also join the 6km competitive Bestie Run with your best friend, because if there’s one thing fans of My Little Pony know, it’s that friendship is magic.
