A-Go-Go ’67 Film Screening

Date & Time: Sat, 7 May | 8.30pm – 10pm

Venue: Bussorah Street

Famously featuring the performances of twelve “pop yeh yeh” (Malay pop) bands and four dance groups, A-Go-Go ’67 was completed during the final years of the Shaw Brothers’ Malay Film Productions Ltd, marking the end of a vibrant era of Malay movie production in Singapore. The movie was an attempt by the struggling Malay film industry to appeal to the Malay youths of its era, whose disregard for Malay Cinema was a major factor contributing to the industry’s demise. A-Go-Go ’67 presents viewers with an idea of the music and lifestyles of the Malay youth from the “pop yeh yeh” era, through the age-old conflict between the conservatism of the older generation and the new, emerging generation’s proclamations of freedom.
